joe's poem

The following is a poem that Joe wrote and entered into the Showcase 2008 competition. His poem was chosen over all other 7th graders in the DoD school system world wide and published in the 2008 edition of Showcase 2008 magazine. He was also awarded a small cash prise of $50.00 but being a published author at 13 years old is much more valuable.

Lies

The world revolves around lies-
Lies of the past,
Lies of the present,
Lies of the future.

Still the lies continue.
Regardless of lives changing,
They still remain,
Hiding beneath our skin,
Easily shown with the simplest of events.

As these events arise, these lies are put
before our very eyes.

We are changed and forced to explain
These lies set before us.
What the future holds, no one knows,
But the lies are sure to follow.

Cogratulations Joe on your published poem!! I liked it too! Keep on going as I agree with your dad that being a published writer, even a poem at age 13 is quite an accomplishment.

How incredibly awesome! I want to be just like you when I grow up! Congratulations Joe! Writing is a talent that flows in the Laverty blood here and there, but I think you are the first award winning author. That takes a lot of hard, hard work! You've made us all very proud!
