Debbie asked me to let everyone know she is doing well and is out of the hospital as of 2pm today. She is walking and moving around on her own. She is doing very well or the doctors would not have released her from the hospital today. She is going to have a lot of aches and pains for a while but that is to be expected. We have only been home for a short while and she is already complaining about being bored. I guess my tap dancing isn't very good or entertaining.

Update on Debbie
Barry called and Debbie is in recovery. The surgery actually took 3 1/2 hours, but the doctor assured him that was normal. Doc said the fusion went well and was very positive about the procedure. Barry asked that I post this to get the good word out. He will update later, I'm guessing this evening, when he can get to a computer.
A word from me...so, can we give it a rest now? As Mom always said, "Things happen in threes". We've fulfilled our commitment in the last 5 weeks, so no more!

I'm home!
They turned me loose at 6:30 tonight. Everything went well. I'm a little sore but other than that everything is cool.
Okay, my turn
My check in time tomorrow is 6:15 am and my surgery is at 8:30. It will take 2-3 hours with an hour in recovery. Please pray for me. I've received a priesthood blessing and I'm sure I'll be fine but I'm as nervous as a kitten. The recovery is going to be long and hard. 6 weeks to 3 months in the brace and NO bending for at least 6 weeks, and they mean NO BENDING! Didn't anyone tell them how good I am at dropping things!!!!!!!
Takes a licking, but keeps on ticking
That's Rick. His surgery went fine. They must have put some new-fangled pacemaker in, because he came out and ate yogurt for lunch voluntarily. He is currently zoning out with his ipod and watching very bad British TV. Because any TV is better than no TV.

pacemaker procedure
After checking in and spending 2 1/2 hours in the hospital, my procedure was canceled and rescheduled for tomorrow at 8:00 am. The technician had to "go home".
So, I'll update everyone tomorrow.
So, I'll update everyone tomorrow.

Liverpool slide show
For some reason you have to watch the slide show viewed in full screen mode to see the captions under the pictures. Otherwise you won't know what you are looking at. You can also view the "album details" to see the stills with the captions.

It's Friday!!!!!!!!
Well for you working folk "It's Friday" is a good thing, but remember Sunday is Coming.
With that said it has been a busy week. I just caught my breath and thought I would solicit some input from you all. First I hope everyone returned safely and had a good time at the Reunion. Notice I did not say Branson. Nothing wrong with Branson in fact it is great!!!!! But the most important thing is Family and the Reunion was all about family. Yes it was vacation time for some and just off times for others, but it was all family. Someone said 7 days in the same house and we are still speaking, that was said kind of tongue in cheek but it does say allot about "A Gathering of Misguided Crazy Folks that Share the Same DNA and Love Each Other in spite of themselves" kind of clan.
Now that I am done pontificating let me ask some questions; Would you like to do this again? If so when? (understanding the expense and all) Would Branson be your next choice? If not what would be your suggestion? What was the thing you enjoyed the most and what could you do with out? Would you like more or less organized activities like the trip to Silver Dollar City or planned meals?
It would be great if I could get a comment from all who attended and those that did/could not make it this time.
Thanks to all,
Jim

Cocoa Loaf for Jason
Jason asked for the cocoa loaf recipe - so here it is like I promised! It was passed on in the family from Nan Laverty (Mildred Evelyn Helmuth Laverty) our Grandmother and great grandmother to Bethany on our Dad's side.
Cocoa Loaf
1 cup sugar 1 cup cold water 1 cup raisins 1/2 cup crisco 2 large tbsp cocoa 1/2 tsp ground cloves 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp salt
Boil above together for 5 mins. Stir continuously so as not to scorch. Cool. Sift 2 scant cups of flour add to above. Put 1 tsp baking soda in 1/4 cup hot water and add. Mix well. Grease and flour lightly two med. pans or 1 large. Bake in loaf pan 45 min at 350* I use two smaller pans as it goes further and doesn't have as much tendancy to fall.
This is the recipe as Nan wrote it. HOWEVER, times have changed!!!!!
Flour is pre-sifted today, so don't sift your flour. Use 2 cups of flour loosely packed. Also, you should use Dutch Process Cocoa powder. I have a hard time finding it so I use 1 rounded tablespoon of Dark Chocolate powder and 1 rounded tablespoon regular cocoa powder. I don't use crisco, I just use liquid canola oil and it actually works better.
Don't overcook in the oven. No one likes cocoa loaf dried out but everyone likes it when the middle falls. It falls quite often and cooks up best on a humid day but don't let that discourage or stop you from making it! It is delicious and the house smells scrumptuous while the first step is being cooked on the stove.

Hi everyone, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tammy and I am Lacey's friend and also Bella's Aunt. It's nice to finally meet everyone I feel like I already know you all from the wonderful things Lacey has told me about everyone. I was speaking with Jim yesterday about Bella's condition and told him I would gladly post some photos of Lacey and Bella and keep everyone updated on how they are doing.
For those of you that don't know whats been going on I will start from the beginning.
About 6 days ago Lacey had to rush Bella to Salisbury hospital she was vommitting blood.
The doctors ran several tests and sent them home, later the doctor called to check on Bella and asked a few questions. From the questions he asked he felt the need to admit her for more tests. They went back to the hospital and ran more tests, they found that she had blood in her stools as well. They did a upper gi and blood work to. They have diagnosed her with several reflux which can be treated with medication. After 2 days in Salisbury they transported them by ambulance to Johns Hopkins. She has been there for the past 4 days and they have ran many tests including the scope down her throat. They noticed the lining of her stomach had several spots on it and also where her stomach and esophogus meet isn't the way it should be. Its loose which could be the cause of her reflux. She has been hooked up to iv's, a cath, and something to monitor her heart I believe. She has a heart mumor

results
The test results are in. At this time I'm not diabetic. I am and have been for years hypoglycemic. The doctor says I am however very sweet.
Still no trace of my luggage!
Still no trace of my luggage!
We made it
Joe and I met at Dullas and flew all night. Got caught in a traffic jam 15 minutes from home after a 1 hr. 45 min ride and spent an extra 1/2 hour in the cab. Now if they can find my luggage I'll call it a day. Hope everyone made it home o.k.

Last Day before we leave for Branson
Well Tomorrow it all starts ...A week with the Laverty's. I pray everyone has an enjoyable and safe trip.
As I think of our getting together and how much fun it will be, I can't help but think of Mom, Dad, Lyn, Biff and Tim not being with us anymore. I know how each of them would have enjoyed the camaraderie and excitement of children, grandchildren and Great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, in-laws and out-laws as well. What a bunch will be there. Sounds like an episode of "The Walton's".
As I think of each and what they would be doing I can't help but think Mom would head up the kitchen, cleaning and "resurrecting the stove " before we check out next week. Dad would surly be at the Dixie Stampede. Lyn curled up with a book somewhere and Biff taking all the risks and dare devil adventures he could pack in. Timmy would be off playing music and presenting that great smile he had.
One day we will all rejoin as the song says and the circle will be unbroken. What a day that will be.
Now I don't know exactly what I will be doing; shooting sporting clays, Silver Dollar City is in my plans (some kids never grow up) maybe a couple lunches and dinners out and a show. But most of all taking it easy. I will report on that when next I get on the blog.
I hope Jimmy and I can post some pictures while we are in Branson. I don't hold a candle to his photographic abilities but I have fun with my camera. I will do my best to get Rick off and get him in trouble and antagonize Debby and Eileen, what is an older brother to do?
To all who can't attend we will miss you terribly and hope that we can share our joy through the Laverty Family Blog.
This is just one of the many James Laverty's saying God Bless you all!

see ya tomorrow
Barry and I will be heading out in the morning. (SAT) We'll do our best to make it in one day - it depends on my back. So we'll see you all very soon! Everyone be careful and stay safe!
On our way
Hello to all!!! Friday morning we will be heading out - my dad, Tony (my nephew) and myself. Mom will work until noon and meet us in great state of Kansas (great meaning great BIG, long, never-ending... hehehe). We will stop over night in Topeka and Saturday will have 5 hours drive time to arrive in Branson. I am excited!
We are taking two cars as mom has to return to work on Wednesday and the plain flights were as long as driving and she preffers to drive. Soooo, we will see everyone on Saturday or Sunday depending on when y'all get there.
That's all. Have a safe and good trip and we will see you soon. Be blessed! Jimmy

Hi Everybody!
Hi Family! It's been a very long time since I've written. A lot has happened, some good, some not so good. I've been working for Habitat for Humanity at their hardware-type store. It's been a lot of fun and very rewarding. I've volunteered at a couple houses and met the families that are getting the homes.
My time there is up now and I'm looking forward to welding school. I'll be starting welding training in three weeks. Hopefully there will be job opportunities when I finish.
I am starting a new job tomorrow. I will be testing and refilling fire extinguishers. It's a small business and I'm not sure what the pay is yet but it's work for now.
I'm actually volunteering right now so I had better log off. I love you guys. I miss you all and I hope you're doing well.

Location in Branson
Well I just found out the resort we are staying at is 45 minutes from teh house the rest of teh family is staying at. We can have as many guests over during the day to use the pool - very nice pool (getting out of the heat Debbie) or for whatever else.
Now a question - are we all meeting at a particular time on Sat or Sun? Is there a plan or are we just going to do that when we all arrive in Branson?

Staying longer
Here's the deal. Due to financial opportunities here vs. opportunities in the states, and due to continuing health concerns, Donna and I have decided to accept another position for her with the Department of Defense. Because of this we will not be returning to the states until July of 2013. If any one wants to take advantage of our hospitality and visit England or use this place as a stop over to hop around Europe, you are certainly welcome to do so.
If not we'll see in four years.
